One of the most common questions that are asked of basketball players is “Where did you play?”. Well for me my answer is simple…nowhere. Basketball has always been the game I loved, however I did not do the things necessary when I was a kid to be able to play in middle school, high school, or college. However, what I did know is that my love of the game would propel me into my future career endeavors.
I started playing basketball when I was in the 3rd grade and I have been playing since then. I have always played recreationally may it be in an elementary school league, YMCA league, or adult league. I did not play in middle school, high school, or college, but I always knew I wanted to be involved with basketball and sports in some way. This is what led me to choosing my Sports Management major in college. I graduated from high school with a 3.8 GPA, but I got denied from every school to which I applied except for North Carolina A&T State University. Honestly looking back on it, it was where I was meant to be. A&T had the only true Sports Management program of all the schools I was considering, and it led me to getting involved with the men’s basketball program. I was a manager for the men’s basketball program at A&T for three years as a student, and subsequently I served as the Director of Basketball Operations for North Carolina A&T.
Being involved with basketball has allowed to meet people in the sports industry, travel the country to different universities, and make lifelong connections that continue to help me even to this day. I earned my master’s degree in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University and earned a dream job with the CP3 Basketball Academy all because of my love of the game. Find your passion, no matter what it may be, and pursue it.
